  21. The basic information on how to use Neiki are in the USER'S
  22. GUIDE. The USER'S GUIDE is included as a Windows Write
  23. document.  It was be copied in the directory where you have
  24. installed this software. The name of the file is NEIKI12.WRI

  28. 0. Bugs Fixed with version 1.2.2
  29. --------------------------------

  31. This version 1.2.2 (January 19, 1995) help avoid a problem
  32. of incompatibility with Windows for Workgroups 3.11 and Win32s:
  33.  
  34.       - The "Create Icon" dialog is NOT invoke automatically anymore
  35.     at the first startup of the program.
  36.  
  37.     So, users who still have problems (GPF!) with this specific 
  38.     dialog can avoid it.
  39.  
  40.     Users who don't have problem with this automated icon creation
  41.     can invoke it manually from the "create Program    Manager icon"
  42.     item of the "Options" menu.
  43.

  45. Bugs fixed with version 1.2.1 (January 15, 1995):
  46.  
  47.       - The initialization code was updated to avoid GPFs happening
  48.     with the "Create Icon" dialog when Neiki is used with
  49.     Windows for Workgroups 3.11 or with Win32.
  50.  
  51.     (Probably help to run under in a Win box under OS/2 2.0,
  52.      2.1 and Warp - but this has NOT been tested).

  54.       - support of half hour time zones: click the Help button
  55.     in the New Chart or Edit Chart dialogs to read about
  56.     how to use half hour in the Offset from GMT field.

  61. 1. Starting the program and creating the icon
  62. ---------------------------------------------
  63.  
  64. If you can read this, then you have extracted the other files
  65. (including NATK12.EXE) from the ZIP files. (If not, please
  66. read NATK12.TXT).
  67.  
  68. Here is how to start the program for the first time and create
  69. its icon:
  70.  
  71.    You can browse on your hard disk with FILE MANAGER and
  72.    double-click on the NATK12.EXE program file 
  73.  
  74.    OR follow these instructions:
  75.  
  76.    NOTE: The example given here assumes that you decided to 
  77.          copy files in the directory above mentioned, C:\NEIKI
  78.  
  79.    1) From within Windows Program Manager, choose the menu
  80.       "File", select item "Run".
  81.  
  82.    2) Type
  83.         c:\neiki\natk12
  84.       and press
  85.         ENTER

  87.    3) Follow the instructions on screen.

  92. 2. Requirements for version 1.2:

  95.  The following hardware and software items are required
  96.  to run "Neiki's Astro Tool Kit":

  98.     []  a 386 or 486 PC with 4 MB of RAM  (8 MB is better)
  99.  
  100.     []  Windows 3.1

  102.     []  2 MB of disk space where you decide to install the
  103.     application.

  107. 3. Math Co-Processor performances
  108. ---------------------------------
  109.  
  110. On a 386 DX (40 MHz) without Math Co-Processor, computing a
  111. chart takes 2.6 seconds.
  112.  
  113. On a 486 DX (33 MHz) with Math Co-Processor, it takes less than
  114. 0.2 second.

  119. 4. Solutions to problems with ICON creation
  120. -------------------------------------------
  121.  
  122. In some odd cases (if you have removed some files from
  123. \windows\system), you might have problems while creating an
  124. icon for "NATK" in Program Manager...
  125.  
  126.  Error:        "Error loading DLL ..."
  127.  
  128.  Solution:  Make shure that the file DDEML.DLL is in your
  129.         C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  130.  
  131.         It should look like this:
  132.  
  133.         ddeml.dll   38,400 .a.. 28-04-93  0:00:00
  134.  
  135.         If DDEML.DLL is not good or suspect, use the
  136.         EXPAND.EXE program to copy DDEML.DL_ from the
  137.             Windows 3.1 distribution diskettes (you have to 
  138.             find which diskette it is) to DDEML.DLL in the
  139.             C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  140.  
  141.         EXPAND.EXE must be run from the MS-DOS prompt.
  142.         The command to execute it will be something like:
  143.  
  144.            expand a:\ddeml.dl_ c:\windows\system\ddeml.dll
  145.

  149. 5. Solutions to Printing problems
  150. ---------------------------------
  151.  
  152.  Problem:    (Only observed with Everex Laser Printer) 
  153.                 Positions do not show properly on the printed 
  154.                 House chart.
  155.  
  156.  Solution:    In the Options menu, choose "Draw chart 
  157.                 options...". Once the dialog box is opened, 
  158.                 in the "House chart:" box, click to disable
  159.                 "use small characters for positions".
  160.

  164. 6. Known problems
  165. -----------------
  166.  
  167. Most the problems described here are related to specific
  168. installations or to the implementation of Windows.
  169.  
  170.  1) Printing report when using Compaq 800*600 SVGA Large Fonts
  171.     mode: 
  172.     the fonts are bigger than they are supposed to be: Arial 10
  173.     points is more like 12 points, etc.
  174.  
  175.     Solution: This problem does not appear with the same 
  176.                   driver in the 800*600 Small Fonts mode nor
  177.                   in the 640*480 VGA mode.
  178.  
  179.  2) "The chart drawing does not scroll properly when I click on
  180.     the scroll bar or on the scroll arrow".
  181.  
  182.     Solution: After you have scrolled the drawing as you
  183.                   want, click on the maximize or on the restore
  184.                   button on the upper right corner of the
  185.                   window. The window will redraw itself
  186.                   properly.
  187.  
  188.  3) In the "Report Print Shop", the [PgUp] and [PgDn] keys do
  189.     NOT always work.
  190.  
  191.     Solution: The application receives the [PgUp] and
  192.                   [PgDn] keys ONLY when the cursor (blinking
  193.                   vertical bar) is in the "Header:" or
  194.                   "Footer:" fields.
  195.  
  196.           The [PgUp] and [PgDn] keys will NOT work if 
  197.                   the "focus" is on one the radio or push 
  198.                   buttons.
  199.  
  200.           Click on one of the "Header:" or "Footer:" 
  201.                   fields or TAB to one of them.
  202.  
  203.  4) The "Copy to Clipboard" item of the "Draw" menu does NOT 
  204.     copy the complete drawing of the House (or Aspects) Chart.
  205.  
  206.     Solution: None yet.
  207.  
  208.                   Anyway, a Paste into Paintbrush is less than
  209.                   beautiful: the bitmaps drawing of Paintbrush
  210.                   cannot really use the higher resolution 
  211.                   drawings created by "Neiki's Astro Tool Kit".
  212.  
  213.           The best output for a chart is directly to a
  214.                   printer.
  215.  
  216.           A future version will provide a way to export
  217.                   a chart drawing to a file in the Windows
  218.                   "Metafile" graphics format.
  219.  
  220.  5) Though you can start "Neiki's Astro Tool Kit" two or more 
  221.     times, this will most probably lead to serious problems: 
  222.     UAE, GPF or even Windows crashing.
  223.  
  224.     The next version will forbid starting a second instance of 
  225.     the application.
  226.  
  227.  
  228. 7. Registering...
  229. -----------------
  230.  
  231. This software is NOT free... except for a first period of sixty
  232. (60) days to try it. The details are in LICENSE.TXT
  233.  
  234. To register this software (and unlock some of its functions)
  235. fill the registration form in REGISTER.TXT and mail it to us
  236. with your check. We will send you your personal "registration
  237. information".
  238.  
  239. Once you will have entered your personal "registration
  240. information" in the program, the following features will be
  241. enabled:
  242.     - printing of Synastry charts
  243.     - printing of Transits charts
  244.     - the menu item "Look at Sky Now", which draws an aspects
  245.       chart of the sky as it is now.

  264. features.

  268. "Neiki" charts files (*.obc) and options file (options.obf)
  269. are fully compatible with "Archimede" files.

  271. "Archimede" has the same menus as "Neiki" but with some more
  272. features:
  273.     - Transits not only of "slow", but also of "fast" planets
  274.       (Moon, Sun, Mercury, Venus)
  275.     - Sky Display Mode: this mode draws an aspects chart of 
  276.       the sky in real time (you select a refresh interval 
  277.       between 5 and 60 seconds)
  278.     - compute and display positions of Lilith and Chiron
  279.     - include more ephemeris files and cover the period 
  280.       between 1600 to 2680 AD
